Genea and Incorp shortlisted 2017 IDEA
Congratulations to our fabulous Partner, Genea and our Design Team, lead by Ian Worthy, for being shortlisted in the 2017 Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).
The Genea project was a rebuild of the offices and clinic situated in Kent Street Sydney after a devastating Valentine’s Day fire damaged two of their three floor workplace.
We worked directly with Genea and their insurance company in re-establishing the office and clinic environments, procedure, treatment and consulting rooms, as well as accommodation for the nursing, administration staff and national leadership teams. Much of the existing infrastructure was damaged and rather than re-instate, we were able to convince Genea to approach the re-fit with a renewed emphasis on the patient journey.
The workplace transformed to a low height, open plan environment, with built zones to the core, opening up large vistas and access to natural light and views. Efficient re-planning of the workplace accommodates future planned growth as well increasing the mix and number of facilities.
At the heart of the material palette is the colour blue, the colour of the calm sea and the clear sky, both of which are linked to inner serenity, calm and clarity. Blue is also known to slow heart rate and breathing, so it’s the perfect colour to aid in meditation or relaxation. We mixed it with pink, the colour representing a gentle type of love and tenderness. Pink has a calming effect on people and is often associated with nurturing.
Soft hues of pinks, taupes, greys and beiges are used in the materials, fabrics and upholsteries whilst deep charcoals and bleached oak timber flooring delineates spaces and creates circulation zones. Bookcases, floor rugs, lounges, table and floor lamps, beautiful wall detailing, screens, wall and ceiling papers provide a backdrop for intimate interior spaces.
Whether it be the large open share spaces, generous hospitality stations, or the enclosed drum room with it’s beautiful leather banquette seating, there’s a place to feel nurtured.
